Promoting Healthy Eating to Children on World Chefs Day

Back to Press releases
Dubai, UAE

Under the theme “Healthy Kids- Healthy Future,” chefs from the Emirates Culinary Guild led celebrations of International Chefs Day, and volunteered to cook nutritious recipes with 3rd Grade schoolchildren at Dubai’s International Centre for Culinary Arts during an event organized by Nestlé Professional.

“We believe that good eating habits should be transmitted during childhood, and that cooking should be part of the educational process,” said Thomas Haller, Business Development Manager at Nestlé Professional Middle East, and Chairman of the Emirates Culinary Guild in Dubai. “It was very rewarding to share our passion for cooking with young kids, and to take them through the experience of being a chef for a day.”

Around the world, International Chefs Day commemorations this year witnessed chefs coming together with teachers, parents and children through the global Nestlé Healthy Kids nutrition education program, in order to share their love of healthy cooking and encourage children to adopt healthy eating habits.

International Chefs Day is set annually for October 20th, and involves over 10 million chefs in social activities conducted among local communities.

The Nestlé Healthy Kids Program was launched in 2009 to raise awareness of nutrition and healthier lifestyles among school-age children. Working together with almost 300 partners from local governments, universities, scientific institutions and child nutrition associations, the program has reached more than 7 million children worldwide, and is run in the Middle East under the name Nestlé Ajyal Salima.

The Emirates Culinary Guild (ECG) in Dubai is the UAE’s association of professional chefs; a non-profit organization dedicated solely to the advancement of the culinary arts of the UAE.

The International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA) provides its students with a truly world class culinary experience, and is featured amongst the top 10 culinary institutes of the world. It’s received the “Recognition of Quality Culinary Education” award from the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS), and is committed to providing opportunities for students to realize their dreams through a quality educative environment.
