Nestlé Waters is helping to raise awareness and share water knowledge by hosting events with local stakeholders at nearly all its sites around the world to celebrate World Water Day in 2019. In the Middle East, the company is hosting stakeholders, media, and schoolchildren for proactive engagement about water stewardship across the region.
“Knowledge sharing is part of how we ensure sustainable, inclusive water management,” said Claus Conzelmann, Technical Director at Nestlé Waters. “We do that through various means, including initiatives that help raise awareness of local water use, and working with local communities and other water users to promote long-term sustainability of sources.”
In addition to engaging with local communities, the knowledge sharing sessions are also in line with Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification standard, which the company committed to certifying all its sites with by 2025. The global standard helps major water users to better understand the impact of their activities, and to work together with other stakeholders on the sustainable management of shared water resources.
Building understanding of water issues
Nestlé Waters is also launching "20 Questions About Water": a series of thought-provoking videos that aim to foster discussion around all aspects of water. Filmed over the past 12 months, the videos feature questions from people across four continents and answers from global water experts.
About World Water Day
World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. It has been held annually since then.
